This set is chosen by those who understand that refinement lies in how time is shared, not hurried.
“A gentle rhythm emerges as vessels pass tea from one hand to another.”
This three-person tea set takes its form from the melon-shaped silhouette long favoured in Korean celadon. Softly faceted and evenly proportioned, the shape offers both visual calm and a natural grip, allowing each vessel to rest securely in the hand. The set comprises a Dagwan (teapot), a sukwoo, and three matching cups, conceived as a complete sequence rather than individual pieces.
Each surface is adorned with the unhak (crane and cloud) motif, rendered through carefully worked celadon decoration. In Korean tradition, cranes symbolise longevity and moral clarity, while clouds signify the unseen currents that carry life forward. Together, they form a quiet expression of harmony between the earthly and the transcendent—an image particularly suited to the contemplative pace of tea.
The sukwoo occupies a central role within this set. It is the vessel in which tea briefly rests after being poured from the teapot, allowing temperature and strength to settle before the tea is shared among the cups. Through this pause, each cup receives tea of equal depth and aroma. When preparing delicate teas such as green tea, hot water may first be poured into the sukwoo to cool slightly before meeting the leaves, protecting both flavour and balance.
This small interval—neither hurried nor excessive—reveals the ethos of Korean tea culture. The sukwoo regulates pace, mediates between water and leaf, and quietly expresses consideration for those who will drink. It is a tool of adjustment rather than display.
The celadon glaze carries a soft, blue-green tone, its surface marked by subtle variations that respond gently to light. The crane and cloud imagery does not dominate, but appears and recedes as the vessels are turned, encouraging slow handling and attentive use.
Together, the teapot, sukwoo, and cups form a continuous experience. Each piece depends on the next, and the act of pouring becomes as meaningful as drinking itself.
In this way, the set exists not as tableware alone, but as a measured presence—one that holds tea, time, and companionship in careful balance.
