This exquisite octagonal tray presents a masterful union of Korean mother-of-pearl artistry and symbolic nature. Against a mesmerising abalone backdrop, white peonies bloom in radiant layers, surrounded by fluttering butterflies. Each element is delicately inlaid using natural shell, their iridescent tones transforming with light and time—never quite the same, always quietly resplendent.
The octagonal shape, distinct from the more familiar circular form, offers a sense of balance, completion, and contemplative restraint. In East Asian traditions, and particularly in Korea, the number eight (팔) is revered as a symbol of wholeness and enlightenment—frequently found in architecture and sacred spaces. Its geometry lends an architectural calm, grounding the swirling movement of the natural motifs.
A classic meander key border encircles the composition, echoing ancient harmony and protection. This frame provides a visual stillness that allows the blossoms and wings within to breathe, shimmer, and unfold.
At the heart of the piece, the peony (목단) stands as the “king of flowers” in East Asian art—symbolising wealth, honour, and refined elegance. Revered in both palace and poetry, it speaks of grace that does not fade. Surrounding it, the butterfly (나비) symbolises transformation, fleeting joy, and the presence of gentle freedom. Together, they create a poetic balance—between prosperity and lightness, between rooted beauty and delicate flight.
The abalone shell beneath, with its deep oceanic blues and greens, adds an air of mystery and timeless depth. As light passes across the surface, it evokes the movement of water or a distant horizon—an invitation to reflection.

Shipment processing time
- All orders are aimed to be processed within 5 days after receipt of payment. Orders are not shipped on weekends and holidays.

Shipping rates and delivery estimates
- All orders are shipped by K-Packet, Air mail, EMS, Express Courier (UPS, Fedex, DHL Etc).
- K-Packet shipping is basic shipping service. K-Packet estimated shipping time is 14-21 days, depending on your region. If weight is over 2kg, K-packet service would be converted to Air Mail.
- EMS estimated shipping time is 7-14 days, depending on your region. Please note that Air Mail shipping method may not be available for all countries.
- Express Courier estimated shipping time is 5-10 days.
- Shipping charges for your order will be calculated and displayed at checkout.
- Parcels are sent tracked where possible, and you will receive an automated email with a tracking number once your order is processed.

Damages
- We pack our items with extreme care to ensure they survive the journey. In the rare event of damage, contact us immediately with a photo and we will work with you to find a solution.

- Please note that your parcel may be subjected to the customs of your country when it arrived in. And the customs duty is the recipient’s responsibility. USA customers only: we pay your customs fee!
- Please note we have no control over these fees. Delivery time may also be delayed if local customs have your package on hold for a long period of time.
